ист"Гоудиз ледиз бук"Журнал для женщин; основан Л. Гоуди [Godey, Louis Antoine] (1804-1878) в Филадельфии в 1830. Первые номера вышли под названием "Ледиз бук" [Lady's Book]. В 1837 Гоуди купил бостонский журнал "Ледиз мэгэзин" [Ladies Magazine]. Благодаря совместной редакции Гоуди и Сары Дж. Хейл [Hale, Sarah J.] журнал за 40 лет стал наиболее известным и популярным периодическим изданием в стране. К началу Гражданской войны [ Civil War] имел ежемесячный тираж 150 тыс. экз.
